What's Up?

Medium Friend Link ~ October 2024

Hi, hi!

Have you noticed the arrival of Autumn even though it's still a bit hot in Hong Kong? But no matter how Halloween is coming...right after our Mid-Autumn Festival, which clearly reminds us the season changes.

Will you spend more time outdoors in this cozy weather, that is what I'm planning to do, who can resist the gentle touch of sunlight in lovely Autumn?

How about bringing a novel to read in a park, having a picnic along the waterfront promenade, or hiking if you wish? There is plenty that can do in this fall. But before that, you may also want to read some short articles in your leisure moment with your favourite coffee or tea in hand.

Here are the selected stories for you, take your time...enjoy :D

Medium Friend Link ~ Sept 2024

Hi, hi!

Don't you recognize our Summer is almost end? Oops! even though it's still soooooooo....very hot in Hong Kong. In my district, I've already felt the signal of Autumn coming in the early morning & late night.

I like Autumn very much, it's the most poetic season I thought, the best weather for outdoor photography; the most comfortable atmosphere to ponder under a clear blue sky mesmerized by the rainbow color autumn leaves...

Have you ever heard that one of the tragedies of global warming is the duration of season changes, meaning we may lose our Autumn with the extension of Summer instead... Oh! That will absolutely be a nightmare!!

Truly speaking, I once hoped to publish my books in physical copy, but I thought, maybe a silly one: 'What if no one buys?!' then all paper used will become trash!

For a green author like me, I find it easier to stick to ebooks & e-writings in the meantime, and this is one of my reasons behind.

So, if you don't mind for some online reading, here we have the selected article friend links, enjoy!

Finally on Amazon Kindle
~ 22 Jun 2024

Hi, hi!

Hurray! Finally...my Petit Paris Series is settled on Amazon Kindle and they are ready for purchase now in different territories.

The learning curve is a bit long (or I'm not smart enough :P) it took me a lot of effort to work with the missing book covers after live on the store, and to solve the low display content issues which are especially critical to a fixed layout photo+text+illustrated book.

If you're writing a heavy text novel, your publishing process is far more easier for the use of reflowable epub, and can benefit a lot from the marketing tools provided for promotion. Whereas a fixed layout (they use the term  Print Replica) has to do extra work by ourselves.

But no matter how, it's done. So I've added a new book link to my Books Page for your easy reference, in case you're a Kindle lover.

Last but not least, I'll continue to see if there is an alternative solution for you to preview more content in advance other than the Instant preview, which is again not supported in print replica.

Okay, see you next time, have a nice weekend :D

Just in case you found me on Amazon Kindle

~ 17 Jun 2024

Hi, hi!

It's a bit embarrassing, but no matter how, I need to let you know just in case you found me on Kindle Books.

As you may know I'm currently working on the distribution of my Petit Paris Series on KDP, basically everything was settled except for some critical issues that are out of my control ~ 'The Missing Book Cover Mystery'

As an author, I should raise a thousand Whys? After all books were being live in the bookstore but NO BOOK COVER showed (except one, out of my 12 books in the whole series), isn't that weird? It's been a week since lived. Who will purchase a book without a cover and only a few pages (10%) sample preview? I guess I'm reasonable to make a complaint, right? But...

As far as we know this is the norm in this platform, so what we can do as an emergency solution is to use the A+ Content to add some images (4 maximum) including the cover & sample page inside. Although it really looks unprofessional, that's what we can do in the meantime.

I do have a question about why Apple & Google don't have this problem, basically the book metadata with all necessary information together with the most important book cover can be ready within 1-2 days. Isn't it due to the enormous distribution kingdom that Kindle has to handle and is overloaded already?

No matter how, let's leave this question for the kingdom to solve & hopefully within a month...So, a little update for you & I'll place the KDP book link here only when everything is ready.

Au Revoir and have a beautiful weekend :D

Weird norm to publish in KDP ~ 23 May 2024

Hi, hi,

Where have I been? After creating this site, I went back to daily writing in Medium as well as something more to learn in the publishing stuff.

For the last few years, I have used only two platforms, Apple Books & Google Play Books to sell, after getting used to both technical know-how, the upload process is painless and I'm ready to go for another platform this year, the one that needs a lot more effort to deal with.

The reason I need to start from Apple Books, is obviously due to my manuscript was prepared by Pages on Mac, the travelogue was written along with photographies & illustrations, so a fixed epub format or pdf will be ideal to prevent mislocating contents when viewing from different devices.

This is a challenging issue but the one I must stick to, at least in the meantime. When preparing the format to sell in Amazon's Kindle Books, they normally go for flowable epubs, and many other formats of their Kindle devices, which is good for novels with heavy text content but definitely not for mine.

Therefore I need to spend some time learning how to transform my original manuscript into its proper format, including re-layout everything to suit the 1.6:1 screen, even if it's only available for tablet & phone only. When everything is ready & successfully uploaded, the live books in store don't include the book cover & look inside (sample preview pages) until at least 72 hours or more...and this is the norm, weird, right?

Because, if I'm a reader myself, there is no way for me to buy one without these two information, but again...this is the norm; so I can only take it or leave it. While waiting of doing nothing (not even any promotion can be done to a book without a cover :P), why not make a note here, in case you find them online with ????????

Hopefully, everything can be wrapped up nicely as soon as they can, for you to have another channel to read my books.

See you !

Welcome to my world ~ 3 May 2024

Hi, hi,

Finally created my author's website on 3 May 2024, Hurray!

Although I started my writing journey early in 2020, I spent quite a long time learning from scratch, there was a lot of stuff to take care of because an indie writer means everything was done on her/his own.

It was a difficult start-up but worth it, I still remember the joy of contentment when the first book was published.., and from that minute, I could call myself an author.

But it still took me some time before I had the confidence to apply ISBNs for my first series, Petit Paris, a travelogue with poetry, photographs & illustrations, that had just completed in April this year.

Many experienced authors said that the first published book was the worst written one, I couldn't agree more. It's easy for me to unpublish because it was in ebook format, but I've made up my mind to keep it at the end.

A record of the journey, the process I've treasured the same as publishing, or making a profit. The learning curve could be a lifetime, that's what an author should commit, I believe.

To end my first bird talk, I would like to share with you one of my favorite quotes:

A professional is simply an amateur who didn't quit

~ Richard Bach

One note from One Bird is better than a million words...

Emily Dickinson

Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.
